![]() ![]() ![]() When you create an RMarkdown file (.Rmd), you use conventional Markdown syntax alongside chunks of code written in R (or other programming languages!). You can convert Markdown documents to many other file types like. from plain text files, while keeping the original plain text file easy to read. Markdown is a very simple ‘markup’ language which provides methods for creating documents with headers, images, links etc. RMarkdown presents your code alongside its output (graphs, tables, etc.) with conventional text to explain it, a bit like a notebook. You might choose to create an RMarkdown document as an appendix to a paper or project assignment that you are doing, upload it to an online repository such as Github, or simply to keep as a personal record so you can quickly look back at your code and see what you did. In the world of reproducible research, we want other researchers to easily understand what we did in our analysis, otherwise nobody can be certain that you analysed your data properly. R Markdown allows you to create documents that serve as a neat record of your analysis. R Notebooks (the future of reproducible code? Maybe?). ![]() Export an RMarkdown file into many file formats.Learn how to construct an RMarkdown file.Understand what RMarkdown is and why you should use it.Here’s a small list of the commands I used for my thesis. For example, the R package kableExtra provides a list of LaTeX packages required to be able to customize the tables (see here). In preamble.tex, I put all the LaTeX commands, many of them being \usepackage. tex files: preamble.tex is where I put all the LaTeX commands and packages I used, and titlepage.tex to make my custom titlepage, acknowledgments and abstract before the table of contents. In addition to Global.Rmd (which contains YAML and setup chunks), I used two. They make it much easier to write a thesis since it is possible to divide it in several pieces (introduction, literature review, method, etc.). Rmd files that contain only some Markdown text and code chunks (no YAML). Therefore, I had a file containing the YAML and the chunks necessary to load all the packages needed and to run the child documents. While it is possible to create a bookdown project with RStudio, I “manually” made my own, because I have the impression there are a lot of files created automatically by RStudio that would just confuse myself. See the bookdown book for all the details. Why bookdown?Ī small preamble before starting to list these problems and solutions: why did I use bookdown and not rmarkdown? bookdown has a few advantages that are very important when writing a Master’s thesis (or an academic paper in general), such as cross-references between sections, figures, tables, etc. This post contains some solutions to these problems. I found that some things were not as easy to do as they should be. It was really comfortable to do absolutely everything with R: data treatment, use of econometric methods, redaction with chunk of codes, and even the slides for the presentation! However, I have also spent a non-negligible part of my time trying to have a correct layout, essentially for the first pages. I finished my Master’s thesis very recently, and I wrote it with R Markdown, and more precisely with the bookdown package. Titlepage, acknowledgements and abstract. ![]()

![]() ![]() You’d plug your RV’s 30-amp power cord into the female end of the dogbone adapter, and then you’d plug the other end of the dogbone into the 15/20-amp service outlet.Įverything in the RV will have access to power… but, again, just be sure that you don’t try to run too many 120-volt devices at once, or you’ll end up tripping the breaker at the pedestal. Let’s use the example of plugging a 30-amp RV into a 15/20-amp power pedestal using a dogbone adapter. These will often have a molded handle on one side to make plugging it into, and removing it from, the power pedestal easier. This dogbone allows a 30-amp RV power cord to plug into a typical household 15/20-amp outlet.Ī dogbone style adapter has the two adapter plugs separated by a short, heavy-duty cord (making them LOOK like a dog’s bone). Again, you won’t damage your RV or the power service. It’s a common scenario for RV owners, and you can do it safely using a 30-amp female to 15-amp male adapter. This will allow you to plug directly into 30-amp shore power and will not cause damage to your RV or the power service.Īnother example would be to plug your 30-amp RV (again, if you’re unsure that’s what you have, just look at your power plug) into a 15/20-amp outlet at a campground… or at your home. Using this example, if you want to plug your 50-amp RV into 30-amp service, you’ll need a 50-amp female to 30-amp male adapter. They’re called dogbones because of their shape (thin in the middle and fat on both ends). If you have a 50-amp RV (you can tell by looking at your shore power plug) and the only service available to you is 30-amp service, don’t despair! There are adapters for this purpose. ![]() Now, let’s talk about all the cool things you CAN do and how to do them safely, beginning with using RV power cord adapters, better known as “dogbone” adapters. John’s holding a 50-amp female to 30-amp male dogbone, which lets us plug our 50-amp rig into a 30-amp outlet. ![]() It’s only on a few very high-end motorhomes (usually bus conversions) that you might expect to see 240-volts available through this same type of plug… most often for supplying high-voltage power to a 240-volt dryer (and ONLY that circuit is provided 240-volts… everything else in the RV will be wired to use 120-volts from one or the other leg of power). Usually, half of the RV’s 120-volt circuits are powered by one leg, and the other half are on the other leg.īut it’s still the same 120-Volt system as on all smaller RVs. Most 50-amp RVs are wired to use each side of the 120-volt service separately, sending 120-volts to two separate “legs” of service. Even though it’s called a 50-amp connection, it actually supplies two separate 50-amp, 120-volt feeds.Īs a result, a 50-amp feed brings a total of 12,000 watts into your RV with 6,000 watts from each hot wire. This is the big one… 50 amps… which virtually all large RVs are equipped with.Ī 50-amp power cord (for larger RVs) has four prongs that correspond to TWO 120-volt hot wires, a neutral wire, and a ground wire. Let’s talk about each version, and then we’ll address the issue of extension cords. RV power cords are available on RVs in 15-amp, 30-amp, and 50-amp versions, usually in lengths of 25 or 50 feet. Your RV power cord will plug into the pedestal, and that’s how you’ll power the outlets in your RV during your stay.
